University in Partnership with FAROS 10 June 2008
Animal Welfare on Symi is now the concern of the top Veterinary Teaching College in Greece and FAROS is very pleased to announce a formal partnership with the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. The partnership will aim to facilitate the constant supply of Greek vets to Symi all year round, raise awareness among the residents about the care of the animals and guarantee a standard of veterinary care and good practice. From now on, all printed materials published by FAROS (leaflets, posters, etc.) will also have the name and logo of the University of Thessaliniki.
It's very important for a small island like Symi to attract the attention and support of one of the more well-known University Departments in the whole of Greece and as a result both the island and the FAROS initiative will attract additional positive publicity. We'd like to thank the President of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Professor Timoleon Rallis, for his interest in Symi and his support to the FAROS initiative.
In partership with the University, we have now secured a team of vets that will come to Symi in the first week of August and the vet clinic will operate between 4-9 August.
Apart from the August visit, FAROS can confirm that a well-known vet on Rhodes and one of his colleagues have agreed to come to Symi at the end of September. The exact dates will be announced in the next few days.
Given the high cost of the first FAROS clinic last month and the vet visit in the first week of August, we have decided that a third summer visit at the beginning of July is not necessarily the best way to target the funding we have raised so far to achieve the greatest good. With the continuing financial support of the people, donors, and sponsors, we hope that starting as soon as the August visit, we will be in a position to equip the clinic to an even higher standard so that we can offer a wider range of services including more complicated examinations and operations as well as blood-testing.
If anyone needs any veterinary help and advice between vet visits, please contact FAROS and we will do our best to help you. FAROS is in close communication with a number of vets and we should be able to put you in contact with the right person so you can receive the best advice. We can also supply and administer cat and dog vaccinations at any time.
All the details for the August and September visits (location of the clinic, opening hours, etc.) will be announced in the next few days. There will also be announcements by the Municipality as well as new FAROS posters around Symi. As always, all the latest news will appear online on SymiGreece.com.
