A few days ago another FAROS vet clinic (the third in 9 months) took place in Symi with great success. During the three days the clinic was operating, Lena (who has already come as a voluntary vet to Symi last August) and Evgenia (the new face in the constantly increasing FAROS vet team) treated free of charge 30 animals including 11 operations (one which lasted more than 2 hours involved a fistula removal on a cat), 16 vaccinations, 6 blood tests, checkups on most animals as well as supply and prescription of medicines wherever necessary.
The total cost of the FAROS clinic in November was 1,217 Euros. The cost includes return plane tickets for the vets as well as re-stocking of the clinic with anesthetics, antibiotics, vaccines, blood tests and a second oxygen cylinder. Since the beginning of August (second FAROS vet clinic) and up until the end of November, FAROS collected a total of 1,088 Euros via voluntary donations. The donations were received during the three-day vet clinic as well as from the FAROS collection boxes that can be found around Symi, donations via the internet as well as the proceeds from the FAROS party at Harani Club that was very well attended especially with young people.
FAROS would like to thank Kalodoukas Holidays for donating the accommodation for the vets in a fabulous house in the centre of Yialos, Symi Tours for donating a hire car and paying for the boat tickets, EFG Design for donating the design and printing of the FAROS posters, the supermarket TAXAS for picking-up and transporting the oxygen cylinder from Rhodes to the FAROS clinic, and of course everyone who carries on supporting FAROS morally and financially during the first 9 months of its existence. However the biggest thank you belongs to the FAROS vets themselves who carry on coming to Symi and offer their service free of charge and work non-stop from morning till night so they can attend to everyone and see all animals brought to them.
The next vet visit is being scheduled for the end of February and we hope to be in a position to announce the exact dates in January.
Finally, we’d like to remind everyone that if someone needs any veterinary help and advice in between the FAROS vet clinics, you can contact us and we will do all we can to help. FAROS is in close partnership with the Department of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Thessaloniki and we will put you in touch with the right vet so that you can receive the best possible advice. Moreover, FAROS can supply and administer vaccines for cats and dogs at any time.
