Yacht Spot › La MIrage

La Mirage was built by the Dutch company Amels as one of a series of Limited Editions. Amels 171, as it was originally called, was launched in 2007...

...and arrived in Symi in mid-August 2009, mooring in Mouragio in the twilight.

At 52.3 metres in length, La Mirage is the largest motor yacht to have berthed in Symi in three months, and brings to an end a period of "mega-yacht" famine here. If 2009 follows 2008, then La Mirage could be the fore-runner of a large number of 50m-plus yachts arriving in the latter half of the month.

Details about La Mirage online are scarce, and actual photos of its interior seem non-existent.

The Amels website has a pretty video showing drawn images of the exterior and interior of La Mirage which gives a good idea of its luxury.

It also has the sales blurb...

The LIMITED EDITIONS AMELS 171 is shaped by Tim Heywood to stand out in the crowd. She has strong feminine curves with crisp horizontals and verticals, designed to give an impression of confidence and modernity, and provide a variety of spaces for outdoor enjoyment. The General Arrangement maximizes privacy and leisure for owners and guests, and assures efficient traffic flow and operating logistics for crew. With interior styling options by Laura Sessa Romboli, this groundbreaking semi-custom yacht will satisfy the most demanding owner.

The foundation for unique expression, the Contemporary style is modern but not extreme. Joinery of maple, bleached oak, sycamore or similar light woods, are contrasted by darker wood framing the lighter color for dramatic effect. Out of Sessa Romboli's deep love of the Mediterranean, she sensibly selects furniture and floor coverings of open woven materials such as rattan to duplicate the casual life of an island retreat.

All in all, it's rather a pretty creation and was a welcome addition to Symi's harbour. I hope it is the first of many visits.

Not the ugliest, but not a beauty either. I like the reflective yacht, that was class.
