My SymiChristosA Morning Coffee at Kantirimi 14/07/2007, 16:33

A morning coffee at Kantirimi is a treat for me as I don't usually get out of bed that early. The cats were up long before me and were pleasantly surprised to be treated to breakfast. I walked down the Mavrovouni steps, Lemonitissa and Kastro to the left, Kataraktis and Horio to the right and was only 10 minutes late for my meeting.

Symi gets busier and busier in the mornings now even before the day-trippers arrive. On the Mouragio side of the Harbour, people were enjoying their breakfast al fresco in their mega-yachts, the Pride had just arrived and left and the police station seemed a lot calmer today after yesterday's arrival of another group of refugees.

The first boat-load of day-trippers arrived on the Symi at 11:00 and a few hundred people went out on the Pitini side of the Harbour for their first Symi experience.

On my way up, I found Kiki and Mikrouli waiting in the shade for their second breakfast and they then followed me inside for a nap by the air-con! The announcement on the tanoy reminded people that it's a Festival night tonight with traditional Greek dancing at the central square in Yialos at nine o-clock. About two hours later, music will be live and loud at Kantirimi for the rerurn of the Greek Music Nights. If you are on Symi, you know where to come tonight, but if you are far away make sure you log on to SymiGreece later where we will do our best to show you what it's like to be in Symi on a July evening!
