My SymiChristosA Drive to Toli Beach 23/02/2008, 23:42

After a cold and stormy week, warmer weather has returned to Symi this weekend with temperatures in the high teens, t-shirts (for the impatient ones) and the expectation for spring to take away the winter blues. After a secret meeting at Kantirimi to discuss some of the soon-to-be-announced brand-new developments for SymiGreece (watch this space!), we decided to take a drive to Toli (stress on the "i") to enjoy the warm weather.

The drive took us up to Horio, further up to Vigla and around towards Mihaili (the "Roukouniotis" monastery).

From Mihaili, the road descends past green fields and low hills as it zig-zags towards Toli. About half-way down, the tarmac road gives its place to a dirt track (which will hopefully be tarmaced soon) and ends about 100 metres from Toli beach. When the road is completed, this will become a car-park and a footpath will take visitors down to the beach.

With two cameras (mine and Jo's state-of-the-art super-camera!) and one Red-Bull we left the car and started the descent to the beach. We noticed some building work going on at the right-hand end of the beach. When completed (hopefully some time this summer), it will be a taverna and from what we could see, it will be a very nice one too.

We walked along the long curvy beach while a number of people were working directly below the new taverna. The beach is sandy at the taverna end and pebbly at the other.

Jannie, who hopes to work at the new taverna, saw us walking on the beach and came to say hello and offered us coffee and drinks. I first met Jannie about a year ago, when I created a site on SymiGreece.com for her clothes shop in Yialos.

We left Toli, my companions hungry for a late home-cooked lunch. Thanks for the drive guys!
