My SymiChristosSymi in the Moonlight 17/09/2008, 03:48

It was about 7:30 this evening when I looked out of my window and saw the most gorgeous full moon rising behind the windmills above the Yialos to Horio road. I quickly put a shirt on, changed the camera baterries and went out to photograph Symi in the moonlight.

I took the path high up in Mavrovouni, all the way to Mouragio and the Roloi. I don't often walk about this time of day and although my initial aim was to photograph the moon in various places... I was very surpised to find out just how busy the harbour was at this time of night. I knew Symi has been very busy this year and enjoyed possibly the best summer for many years, but being at the harbour just after 8 o' clock on a warm mid-September's evening, it was like mid-August all over again! Yacht after yacht after yacht, all the way to the bridge and then around across the front harbour and back again towards Pitini.

I put the camera on video mode and walked from the Roloi to the Bridge admiring the moon, the scenery and the yachts. My video walk took about 6 minutes... Click PLAY and come with me...

It's now past midnight and the moon is still high up. The music from Harani and Katoi can be heard in the background, I have three cats on my balcony, and almost finished a gorgeous Merlot Yiannis at TAXAS supermarket gave me earlier, while Giorgos Dalaras is singing just for me inside...

The Night After 17 September2008
It's the night after the full moon and I've just walked up home after spending a nice evening at Kantirmi with Marianne and Kenneth. After a few Mojitos, a brown-Rum-with-lime-and-Coke cocktail (that Kenneth told me the name of though I can't remember it now), reports about the best eateries on Symi, stories of cats, rats and cold Oslo in September (as well as others that I'm keeping a secret!) and a promise to return in January for the ultimate winter-in-Symi experience, ...we kissed goodbye.

As I was walking up, the moon was being stalked by wisps of clouds...

I was there then and sat looking at the moon for ages. I didn't try any photos because I knew my puny camera wouldn't cope, so it is lovely to be reminded of that moon over Symi, and the sky the following evening. Thanks Christos for those beautiful photos.
