Tragedy 24/01/2009
A dead girl, forty-days old, two young children and fourteen adults including a pregnant woman, were picked up by Port Police officers on the afternoon of Tuesday 12 January.
Symi Port Authority was informed by a resident of the island that in the “Taviri” area of Nimos there were people in the sea. Without delay, the two Port Police vessels rushed to the spot and picked up the people whose little plastic boat had sunk. Read more...

Winter Tourism on Symi 21/11/2008
Starting at the end of November 2008, a new winter tourism programme is being implemented by the Municipality of Symi in collaboration with ANES. The programme will aim to bring tourists to Symi every weekend (Friday to Sunday). The Municipality has been in talks with ANES and the owners of hotels and in the past few days the Councillors have voted in favour of the programme. Read more...
Spy Cameras in Yialos 21/11/2008
For a long while now, some businesses have installed video cameras on buildings in Symi. Some of these broadcast live pictures on the internet where they can be viewed from anywhere and everywhere in the world. The image from one of these cameras, for example, has Mouragio and the harbour filling the top of the picture and the road by the bus stop in the bottom half. When the "Aegli" is moored in Symi, it is shown clearly. You can also see the people getting off and on. Read more...

Symi Lit with Fires 24/03/2008
It's the eve of one of the biggest days in the Greek calendar. It's Independence Day tomorrow ans the Feast of the Annunciation. This evening hunderds of small fires were lit from Pitini all the way down to Yialos and around to Harani showing the way to the church of the Evaggelistria (which means Annunciation in Greek). A truly spectacular sight!
