It has been confirmed today that the "Proteus" will be back in its (subsidised) inter-island service (Rhodes-Symi-Tilos-Nisiros-Kos) as of tomorrow (1 June) . As previously reported by SymiGreece, the sale of the boat to SAOS Ferries has fallen through and there is an ongoing dispute between SAOS Ferries and the Ministry of the Aegean and Island Policy regarding the terms of contract for the re-tendered route. As a result, the Ministry has postponed the awarding of the contract and invited interested parties to submit an informal bid for the route until the end of the tourist season (October 2007). "Proteus" has now been awarded this short-term contract while a more permanent solution is reached.
The "Proteus" will be running Wednesdays & Friday from Rhodes and Thursdays & Saturdays from Kos. It will also go to Kastelorizo twice a week. For up-to-date schedule information and on-line booking, visit the ANES website.
