As
reported by SymiGreece at the end of December Blue Star ferry Diagoras was thought to have submitted a tender for the subsidised route from Pireaus to the "hard-to-reach" (also referred to as "barren") Dodekanese Islands funded by the Ministry of the Aegean and Island Policy.
According to SymiGreece's sources, Diagoras was the only boat to bid for the route and the official announcement confirming it as the winner is expected in the next couple of days. Our sources suggest that Tilos will definitely be one of the "new" Dodekanese islands that will be served by Diagoras once a week (Kos, Kalimnos, Rhodes, Patmos and Leros are already being served by Blue Star ferries). Although there is still the issue of whether it would be possible for a boat the size of Diagoras to enter, manouvre and securely dock at Symi Harbour, SymiGreece's sources insist that Diagoras will include Symi in its itinerary on a three-day a week basis (!) with the first "official" subsidised sailing scheduled for the 20th or 21st of January.
Let's hope that this will be realised when the official announcement is made, possibly sometime this week.
