Symi FestivalSymi Festival 2008 › PREMIERE - LIVE from the Central Square 26/07/2008, 18:25

02:00 - Some photos
SymiGreece will be putting up dozens of photos and videos tomorrow, but here is just a small apetizer of what happened this evening. It was certainly one of the most well-attended premieres ever and when it comes to people dancing in front of the stage, maybe the best ever!

00:25 - Finishing Off
All of tonight's performers are singing now and the number of dancers in front of the stage has increased. Christos is in the middle of it all taking videos of the festivities that will be available online later!

"S'agapo, s'agapo giati 'sai oraia, s'agapo giati 'sai 'sy"
"I love you, I love you because you are beautiful, I love you because you are you"

The Symi Festival Premiere is over for another year.

00:10 - Very Traditional Now
Glykeria is now back and singing a wonderful traditional mix of traditional Greek music. In front of the stage, dozens of people are dancing (including the Mayor!) and Glykeria is smiling and encouraging them, not that they need much encouragement!

23:42 - Dimitra Olympiou & Mihalis Emirlis onstage
They're singing a lovely mix now...

"Oi Mages den yparxoun pia"...a great favourite!...

...and the wonderful Pantelis Thalassinos song "Krata gia to telos" which has the whole crowd singing along, and...

now about the best Zeibekiko there is, "To Zeibekiko tis Eudokias". People are clapping along to the beat.

Photos will be up here later!

23:35 - Dimitra Olympiou onstage
Glykeria has made way for the delightful Dimitra Olympiou, the second or her two support acts tonight. She is singing a lovely mix of songs from the 80s onwards, and the crowd is really enjoying it. Those of you not on Symi tonight are missing out on a real treat!

23:20 - The Crowd is Swinging Even More!
Glykeria has upped the tempo...she's a real showman!

23:00 - The Crowd is Swinging
Glykeria is singing more traditional music, and the crowd have their arms in the air and are swaying to the rhythm. Soon they'll be dancing!

There are about eight musicians working with Glykeria onstage with keyboard, drums, guitar, bouzouki, tamborine...the sound quality is excellent and is echoing around Symi. People are really enjoying the concert; here at a packed Kantirimi Bar, those who have been lucky enough to get a seat are dancing in the chairs!

Glykeria's voice is perfect tonight and what a perfect backdrop!

22:25 - Glykeria sings!
After half an hour of introductions, Glykeria finally gets to sing and what a great job she's doing! A mixture of modern and not-so-modern. After 15 minutes, Glykeria gave way to one of her support acts, Mihalis Emirlis, who sang a few enjoyable modern songs before Glykeria came back on stage.

Very strange at the moment. I'm only halfway down the harbour, I can't hear anything. The wind has picked up again tonight, so I'm wondering if it's this. Boats arriving every five minutes!
