Wordslip is a word game where you transform each word to the one following it by changing or adding one letter at a time while making sure that each word in the chain is a real word of at least two letters and without using the same word more than once in each chain. Previously, I allowed any word that could be used in a game of Scrabble but there were so many ugly & obscure words being used that I decided to change the rules! You can test the acceptability of words in a wordslip chain online by using the Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary. Disallowed words include those that require capital letters, as well as suffixes and prefixes. Your score for each wordslip will be the number of words that you insert in the chain.
With each wordslip come a pair of numbers in brackets indicating a range in which your score should fall. The first number is the theoretical minimum score, though in almost all cases it isn't possible to get this low a score without using disallowed (i.e made-up!) words. The second number is somewhat larger than the score that I got when I solved the wordslip myself.
As an example of a wordslip, EGGS - BACON (5-22) could be solved with EGGS egg ego go got cot cat car bar barn baron BACON. As ten words were used, this would score 10 points.
The score for all thirteen wordslips will be added together to give you a total score which you want to be as LOW as possible. If one of your answers contains ANY mistakes (disallowed words, two letters changed at once, partial answer etc.) it will be given a score equal to the second number in the brackets (22 in the example above), so make sure you avoid errors! If two contestants get the same score, the one who got the most wordslips completed at the theoretical minimum will be placed higher. If there is still a tie, then I'll consider the number of times you were one away from the minimum and so on.
If you want to change or add anything after you've submitted your answers, you can just resubmit the changes and additions as often as you like, so long as you use the same name and email address.
I'll be putting up a list of the top scorers as time goes by, and will finish the quiz and show the best answers when I think that we have a winner.
Enjoy!
