The creation of the famous French designer Philippe Starck, the yacht A splits opinion like no other yacht I know of. Then again, the Jeff Koons-desiged yacht Guilty that visited Symi a couple of years ago in the pre-Yacht Spot days is not to everyone's taste either. My own opinion is that both yachts are innovative, exciting, and are pushing back the boundaries of design, and both are fascinating and beautiful.
A, according to some sources, derives its simple name from Alexandra, the wife of its fabulously wealthy owner, the Russian energy and banking businessman Andrey Melnichenko.
At 119 metres long,A comes in at 7th place inPower & Motoryacht magazine's list of the Worlds largest yachts for 2009, making it the largest privately owned yacht that has ever visited Symi, larger even than Turama and Pelorus.
Unfortunately, photographs of the interior of A have yet to circulate among the yacht-spotting community so far as I can tell. Be sure that if the day ever comes when Mr Melnichenko chooses to allow the World to see the reputed luxury of A's interior, we'll report it here on the Yacht Spot. Until that day, I can offer you the photographs of this superb yacht as it graced the waters just of Harani. Enjoy!
